What is sports massage?

Sports and remedial massage therapy addresses soft tissue conditions relating to muscles, tendons and ligaments.  Sports massage can be used both to treat injuries and as a preventative measure.  It uses standard massage techniques as well as more advanced techniques used to isolate and stretch specific muscles. The overall aim is to restore/maintain range of movement, tone, symmetry, balance and quality of posture.

This is achieved by stimulating the circulatory systems at a micro and general level.  Sports massage aids the removal of waste products and restores nutrition. This helps athletes to improve the quality and quantity of training and therefore deliver better performances. Sports massage can provide relief from chronic muscular conditions and aids general relaxation

How long does each session last?

Sessions are likely to be 45 or 60 minutes.

Shorter or longer treatments can be arranged on request.

How many treatments will I need?

This will be discussed at your first session.  Without assessing the soft tissue condition it's impossible to say how many sessions will be beneficial, however most conditions see improvements within 6 sessions.  Your initial consultation will involve an overall postural assessment as well as a detailed assessment on any particular areas where you feel pain or general aches.

For general maintenance, sessions can be booked at regular periods depending on your activity levels and requirements.

What should I wear?

It's best to wear or bring shorts and a loose fitting t-shirt
